bait shop news
Welcome! This edition of Bait Shop News is dedicated to Zuzu Jeglinski-Osborne, one of the finest four-legged people I ever had the good fortune to know. Click here to read my eulogy to this grand and glorious puss, who’ll forever be curled up and snoring in my heart.

And speaking of the ghosts of 2012, be sure to click here for my Bests and Worsts of the past year in movies, TV, theater, books and music!

But why dwell on the past when there’s so much potential excitement in 2013? For example, not only is the rough cut of The Meat City Beatniks finally complete, but the live version will receive its first official workshop reading in May at the Eclectic Company Theatre (which staged the world premiere of my play No Love last fall, resulting in great reviews, terrible reviews, and plenty of sex and violence (both onstage and off)!

Meat City, meanwhile, is a musical (which I adapted from a screenplay by If You Like author Scott Von Doviak, which in turn was based on a short story by SAHL singer James Dryden) about a pair of desperate screenwriters on the make. The toe-tapping score is by Eric Jacobson, who’s currently workshopping another original musical called Fauntleroy, based on the 19th century tale of the Little Lord by Frances Hodgson Burnett.

And, in other pop-culture developments, Blue Estate (the Image Comics crime series I scripted for artist extraordinaire and project originator Viktor Kalvachev) is currently on hiatus – but interesting, top secret things are happening with Roy, Jr. and the gang (which I’ll hopefully be able to reveal in the next edition of Bait Shop News).

I’m also thiiiiiiiiis close to finally finishing my first novel, which I hope to send out to a close circle of readers by the end of the year.

In other words, there’s lots of potentially juicy stuff coming up in the future, but not much to report here in the wintry present as I post this -- aside from the fact that I’m still a writing teacher and consultant through NewEnglandScreenwriters.com, UCLA Extension, Brookline Adult Ed. and the Cambridge Center for Adult Ed.

So, how will things turn out in the lucky year 2013? As the all-knowing Magic 8 Ball might say:
reply hazy, ask again later!
